For the first time in its 20-year history, Business Leader has endeavored to rank the Top 100 Small Businesses in North Carolina. Business Leader limited the criteria to include only companies (1) with less than employees and (2) that do a majority of their business in North Carolina.

While it is never easy to come up with fair criteria for ranking businesses in different industries, we developed a ranking methodology that grades companies nominated based on their revenue growth (1-year and 5-year growth were considered), business achievement (past awards received, years in business, etc.) and community involvement. Based on this methodology, each company received a total ranking score between 0 – 100. Business Leader then ranked each of the nominations (we received 367 in total) from 1 – 100. In this issue, we have featured each of these companies, but have only provided the rankings for companies ranked 11 – 100.

In an effort to have our readers participate in this ranking process, we have provided you with the profiles for our top ten ranked companies and now ask you to vote on who will be the 2008 Top Small Business in North Carolina.
