A native of Venezuela, Anabella Smith began studying architecture at the Universidad Simon Bolivar in Caracas before relocating to Florida where she completed her education by earning a degree in architectural technology from Florida International University. Since then, she has been recognized as an innovator in South Florida interior design, lecturing on design and sustainability at FIU and winning Interior Designer of the Year from the American Institute of Architects. As principal and director of interior design at Zyscovich Inc., she contributes to the firm’s continued emphasis on innovation and leadership, overseeing projects that range from the interior design of multifamily high-rise towers to the strategic planning of 200,000 square feet of office space for Capital Bank in Miami. She is dedicated to design that minimizes environmental impact, working in every phase from the actual operation of a space to the environmental performance and sustainability. “We design not only for the space,” she says, “but for the mood and feel and quality of experience of those who inhabit it.”
